The main ERA screen at the bedside has four clearly labelled boxes which are designed to be easy to use quickly. The yellow boxes are for the three assistance requests available in the system; Urgent assistance, Fresh eyes, and Second midwife. The red box is to trigger an emergency.
If you tap any of the three assistance request boxes, a notification will be sent to the base station to alert staff of the request, The alert will be accompanied by a specific tone to signify the request. The tone is different to the emergency bell sound.
Once a member of staff assigns themselves to respond to the request by tapping the icon from the base station, the bedside device will update to inform you that assistance is on its way.
If you tap the trigger emergency box, the app will show you the list of emergencies that have been made available to you by the organisation user. For example, in a maternity ward, you will be presented with a list of relevant emergencies (including PPH, shoulder dystocia etc.) that have been populated into the system. Choosing an emergency will trigger the alarm at the base station and alert all staff of the event.
A list of predefined roles will appear. Staff can begin to assign themselves to roles, either at the base station or at the bedside iPad. Assigned roles turn from red to green. Once all roles have been assigned, the emergency alarm will automatically stop unless it is triggered again by a member of staff.
Once all roles are assigned, the emergency will remain on the screen until a member of staff closes it. This is so that other staff members can see that an emergency has been declared but is being managed by the required people.
ERA Systems is not currently a certified medical device and should be used in conjunction with the existing hard wired emergency call system. If you are unsure on how to use the system, consult your systems trainer for guidance.
